2-D: paper, canvas, collage...

Drawing on the experience of a life lived in New England, Ireland, and Mexico, Maeve Hickey creates two-dimensional works and assemblages with traditional materials such as paper, linen, and canvas. She also frequently incorporates found objects enhanced with natural materials (hair, twigs, earth) and natural dyes (iron, mud, lichen, blood, sea matter) as well as artificial materials (plaster, wire, sequins, and acrylic). At times manipulation of these materials creates the illusion that what is artificial is natural and what is natural is artificial.
